Mr Bill Ryan

Bill Ryan is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Beaumont Hospital and the Royal Bolton Hospital.

He was appointed in 1997 and has wide experience in all aspects of trauma and orthopaedic surgery.  Mr Ryans practice now concentrates on surgery of the knee, lower limb joint replacement, and sports related trauma.

He qualified from the University of Manchester in 1986, and trained in the North West. He has visited many knee units in the UK, Europe and the USA. He was awarded his doctorate (MD) for work into anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Mr Ryans clinical interests include arthroscopic knee surgery, meniscus repair, knee ligament reconstruction, surgery for the younger patient with arthritis, osteotomy around the knee, partial and total knee replacement and revision knee replacement.

He is actively involved in research, audit, training and medical education. He organises and leads courses training junior surgeons in the techniques of knee surgery. He is an examiner for the Intercollegiate Specialty Board in the specialist FRCS (Tr & Orth) examination. He is a member of the British Association for Surgery of the Knee (BASK), the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA) and the British Medical Association (BMA).

In addition to his clinical work, he is active in the regional training programme for junior surgeons, and is currently Regional  Specialty Adviser in Orthopaedic Surgery to the Royal College of Surgeons.
