Mr. Max Fehily is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at BMI The Beaumont Hospital, Bolton and The Royal Bolton Hospital. He specialises in surgery of the Hip and Knee and has a particular interest in the young athlete with soft-tissue hip problems as well as complex reconstruction of the hip in the older patient. He regularly performs hip arthroscopy (keyhole) and has designed a comprehensive rehabilitation program to complement that surgery. He performs the full range of hip replacement surgery from young patients with childhood disease, older patients who wish to maintain an active lifestyle and patients who have failing hip replacements that require revisional surgery.
Mr. Fehily studied medicine at Trinity College Dublin and completed his initial surgical training both there and in the UK. He underwent specialist orthopaedic training in the North West and has a strong interest in research and training. He is currently clinical lead for research and is a member of the Regional Training Committee. During his training, he gained a Masters in Orthopaedic Engineering and published in the leading orthopaedic journals. He is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Salford University and is involved in teaching at both a regional and national basis.
He has undertaken fellowship training in both knee and hip surgery as well as a number of visits to internationally recognised centres, both in the UK and the US. He regularly attends national and international conferences focusing on advances in hip surgery. He regularly teaches on hip arthroscopy within the North West and is a member of faculty of national and international courses teaching hip arthroscopy to orthopaedic surgeons.
He is a member of The British Hip Society (BHS), The International Society of Hip Arthroscopy (ISHA), The British Association of Knee Surgery (BASK), The British Orthopaedic Association (BOA), and is a Fellow of The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.
Mr. Fehily is part of BOSS, Bolton Orthopaedic & Sports Surgery, who are a team of 9 local consultant orthopaedic surgeons who joined forces in 2007 to offer a comprehensive service for patients with bone, joint & sports injury problems.
